ApiBikes.com/Specialized/Metrow Foods duo Chris Brooking and James Millard showed the rest of the field a clean pair of heels in the Elite CC Bill Thomas Memorial Road Race. After numerous attacks on the first lap had come to nothing, Brooking escaped on the second lap approaching Bicnacre, and quickly built a lead of a minute, taking the first prime in the process.
Towards the end of the third lap, he was joined by Millard, who had chased across from the bunch. With team-mates Martin Meades and Kevin Chambers keeping an eye on the rest of the field, the Api pair consolidated their lead, despite a rising headwind on parts of the undulating circuit. A chase group of 5 riders formed towards the end of the race, but were unable to make inroads into the advantage, and Brooking outsprinted Millard to claim the win. This was Brooking's second win in Elite CC promotions this season, having already taken their open time-trial in April.
